The Guangdong Packaging Technology Association was established in July 1981. The competent department of business is the Guangdong Economic and Trade Commission and accepts the local organization business guidance of the China Packaging Federation. The Guangdong Packaging Technology Association has six professional committees for packaging and printing, plastic packaging, metal containers, decoration design, paper products, and intelligence committees. It also sponsors Guangdong Packaging magazine and co-organizes the magazine Packaging and Design. Members are located throughout the province, covering the pharmaceutical, plastics, glass, printing, paper products, metals, design, machinery and other industries.

In recent years, Guangdong Packaging Technology Association has been committed to developing business cooperation between Guangdong packaging industry enterprises, revitalizing the development of packaging industry in Guangdong, learning international advanced scientific and technological strength, and drawing on advanced management experience at home and abroad. Assist members to communicate and coordinate with relevant government departments and international organizations to help solve problems encountered in business activities; introduce domestic and foreign economic and trade regulations, policies and investment environment, participate in the research and formulation of relevant policy rules of China Packaging Federation, and expand Domestic and foreign packaging business, through the establishment of private professional institutions, to provide business information and consulting, legal counsel, arbitration mediation, and other services for member operations. Better integrate the packaging enterprises in Guangdong and give full play to their integration advantages. Actively participate in domestic and international exhibitions, business seminars, and negotiation activities to jointly invest in foreign investment and other business matters, provide services for members to develop markets and international operations, and build a platform for small and medium-sized enterprises to trade. Help enterprises to carry out technological transformation and technological innovation. Through the Association to better understand the members' opinions and requirements, delegate members to the legislature, relevant government departments, business executives to convey or make recommendations and appeals. In addition, through the China Packaging Federation, it organizes training services in terms of international trade standards, management theory and practice, market management capabilities, professional level qualifications, technical skills, etc., to improve the quality of enterprises and help members actively respond to market competition.

In 2015, the Guangdong Provincial Department of Human Resources and Social Security issued a document agreeing to establish the first “Packaging Designer Vocational Skills Appraisal Institute” in the province. In 2016, the Institute conducted two professional qualification test for packaging designers, and applied for about 300 candidates. More than 200 candidates passed the skills appraisal and obtained certificates to deliver professional talents for the packaging industry.

In accordance with relevant state regulations, the functions of the Guangdong Packaging Technology Association are divided into three categories: the function of serving the packaging enterprise; the function of self-discipline, coordination, supervision and maintenance of the legitimate rights and interests of the enterprise; and assisting the government departments to strengthen the functions of industry management. Specifically: 1. Conduct industry and local economic development surveys and research, and put forward opinions and suggestions on economic policies and legislation; 2. Conduct industry statistics, collect, analyze, and publish industry information with the consent and authorization of government authorities; Publications, consultations; 4. Organization of talents, technology, vocational training; 5. Organizing trade fairs, exhibitions, etc.; 6. Participating in quality management and supervision with the consent of government departments; 7. Conduct economic and technological exchanges and cooperation at home and abroad; 10. Formulate and supervise the implementation of regulations, regulate industry behavior, coordinate peer price disputes, and maintain fair competition; 11. Participate in the formulation of industry plans through the authorization and entrustment of government departments, and conduct preliminary demonstrations on technical transformation, technology introduction, investment and development projects within the industry; 13.
